Why the Student Loan Freeze Doesn’t Apply to Your Commercial Student Loans

If you’re wondering why the student loan freeze doesn’t apply to you, chances are it’s because you have a "commercial loan". Simply put, a commercial loan is almost always a federal student loan made under the Federal Family Education Loan Program. Those loans aren’t directly owned by the federal government. Instead, they’re owned by a guaranty agency.
